Thirsty For God

 Psalm 42:2
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God …

It is speculated that the average person can go 3 days without water before the organs start to shut down. Even within a day the body becomes thirsty and we start looking for somewhere to find water. Jesus is the Water of life, and my soul desires each day to drink from Him. We cannot survive spiritually without the Water of life. That is why it is imperative that we daily come to the well of living water, and draw from the living God. We may not always be able to take a block of time from our day, every day,  but daily it is necessary that we call upon Him, and put our trust and faith in the One who cares for us. He is our substance and He provides the strength and endurance to help us stand in the face of life’s challenges. The unbeliever wake up each day, and takes no thought of seeking God, thirsting after righteousness. They are blinded to spiritual things and seek only the carnal and natural things of humanity, but the Christian has been made alive and the source of this life comes from the Living Water. Like the women at the well, He desires to give us the living water, water that will satisfy the longing of the soul, water that will fill the heart with His divine love, water that flows from the fountain of life. “Lord, give me this Living Water for I thirst for you”

Jacob's Well

 John 4:14
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
The well waters at Jacob’s well represents the things and pleasures of this world. The temporal and physical satisfactions. They no doubt bring a measure of satisfaction to the appetites of the flesh and some solace to our social and emotional human desires for relationships and belonging. Drinking from Jacob’s well may be satisfying for a season.  For the pleasures of sin may last for a season, but it will not bring everlasting satisfaction. Not all waters from the well are sinful, but drinking from Jacob’s well will not bring the joy and longing of the soul that will last beyond death and the grave. Jesus offers us the Living Water, The true water of life. He wants to give this water to anyone who will ask. “Come drink from me, and you will never thirst again, it is the water of life that will give you everlasting life”

Everlasting Life

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life:

No one is predestined to spend eternity in hell. It is the will of God that every one come to the knowledge of Christ. Life with a purpose is to find fulfillment in Christ. Whatever the trail or hardship we may face in life, we can have contentment in knowing that Jesus knows our every step and will be with us all the way. It is His desire to give us everlasting life. Life beyond this earthly walk. The body will perish, but the essence and soul of man will live on beyond the grave. Understanding and comprehending everlasting life is difficult to grasp. We have finite minds and limited capabilities. There are those with great imaginations that can provide us a visual of what it might look like, but we really can’t wrap our minds around the idea and concept. It is suffice to say, that our will be changed from mortality to immortality. We will see Him in all of His glory. Until then, let us feast of the bread of life. Let us taste and be satisfied in knowing that Jesus can fill every longing of heart for He is everlasting life.

More of Him

Matt. 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

We seek what we desire. If we desire the things of God, we find time to get more of Him. Seeking righteousness is not done by accident, it is intentional and with purpose. Those who look for ways to fill their lives with good things will find satisfaction. God is ready to bless those who hunger and thirst after Him. Those who read His word, find time to pray, worship Him in the place of worship, and desire to live a consistent life of holiness. We live in a culture where people are entice to live to seek the pleasures of the flesh. To follow the fleshly desires that appeal to the carnal heart. Desires that are forbidden in God’s word. As we seek God for salvation and sanctification, He deepens our desire for more of Him. As we seek for more of Him, He fills us with His Spirit and empowers us to live holy.

The Bread of God

John 6:33 “ For the bread of God is He that cometh down from Heaven, and giveth life unto the world”-
The desire for earthly bread is a natural human craving. When we get hungry, we start thinking what would be good to satisfy our stomachs. It is only a few hours before once again we are looking for more earthly bread. Life is so consumed with fulfilling the fleshly desires of life. In and of themselves, not all of these desires are wrong or sinful. But, many in this world only seek the things of the world. They desire to gather material wealth, popularity, or power. They crave for self satisfaction. They are seekers of pleasure rather than be seekers of God. Jesus recognized that many who were following Him were only wanting that which would satisfy their earthly desires of the flesh. “Verily, verily I say unto you, ye seek Me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves and were filled.” (Jn 6:26). God wants to give bread to the world that will bring every lasting fulfillment. Jesus, the bread of life that came down from heaven is the true source of satisfaction. If we will eat this bread, our cravings for the earthly bread will fade away. As we daily eat of the bread of life, we find in Him that He will satisfied all the longings of our heart. Our affections are now set on things above and not on things of this world. In Him is life, and we must believe that He is the giver of life. Let us now eat, and be satisfied.

Living Water

John 4: 13b,14 “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”-
You only have to look at the world culture to see that people crave pleasure. They thirst for something that will bring satisfaction. Some of the things people crave for are not sinful, but they consume their desires to be happy and satisfied. They seek pleasures that fulfill the lust of the flesh rather than seeking 1st the Kingdom of God. Those who drink “this water” will never be satisfied. There are also those who throw themselves into a good cause, in hopes that doing something good would easy the conscience of the guilt of sin in their life. The world is thirsting for love, peace, and happiness, and unfortunately many will seek it in ways that are unholy. True satisfaction only comes from Jesus. He is the water of life that is able to fulfill the deep desires of the heart with true love and happiness. The fountain of life springs forth even when life’s circumstances are hard and sorrow comes. The water that satisfies will bring joy because we know that He is near and will walk with us even though the shadows of darkness may surround. The Living Water satisfies the longing of the heart. It is His desires that we drink from this Fountain.
