Love One Another

John 15:9,12

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love…This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Is it really possible to love others the way Jesus loved us? Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to give His life on the cross. With His blood that He shed, He made atonement for the sins of all humankind that ever lived and those who would be born after He rose and ascended to the Father. How is it possible for us to love in such a measure? With all of our faults and humanity, Jesus said, and commanded that we are to love one another as He and the Father have loved us. Man, with all of his good intentions, is not able to accomplish this. But, with God, all things are possible (Matt 19:26). To love as God loved is not a feeling or emotion, but a choice. The choice to love comes from the Father above. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17) Love is a gift and fruit of the Spirit that is given to us by the Holy Spirit that is with us. As believers, we seek the Holy Spirit not only to be with us, but in us to guide us into all truth. The truth is that God is love, and with the help of His Spirit, He can lead us into this love to love one another. An example of this love was recently demonstrated by the wife of Charlie Kirk, who was shot by a man who hated the truth that Charlie was speaking. Charlie’s wife, Erika, in front of hundreds of thousands of people, publicly forgave this man. Such love is not possible with the human nature we are born with. Let us examine our hearts and ask God to search us out. To remove any shadow of hate, and fill us with His divine love. When His love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, we are then able to fulfill His commandment, and love others as He has loved us. 

Faith That Pleases God

 Heb. 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

With God all things are possible, but for the impossible to happen we must believe. Believing God must be intentional. Faith is not a feeling that just comes over us, and we feel like believing. Faith in believing in God is knowing that God is who He says He is and will do what is always best. We must believe that He is in control of our lives and everything that happens is for a purpose. This is not to believe that God will always answer our prayers and give us what we desire. As Christians, we desire to please God every day of our lives. Life happens, and we are faced with the decision to trust God and believe that He will work all things out for His purpose and His glory. We diligently seek Him first, and He rewards us with His smile of approval. We seek first the kingdom of God and all the other things will happen in His time. I don’t pretend that putting our trust in God when bad things happen is easy. When we face the giants in our lives, and we feel that all is lost, we come to God and give it all to Him. We rest in knowing that He is a God who cares and understands what we need. Let our faith take hold in the God who is able to do “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”(Eph 3:20). Let us have a faith that pleases God, even in the hard times.

Walking On Water

Matt 14:29  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Walking on water is not possible. The laws of nature defy the possibility that humans can literally walk on the surface of the water. The laws of nature do not apply to God. He created the laws that govern our universe, He can alter those laws at will. With men, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible. When God asks us to do the impossible it would be natural for fear to grip our hearts. We who fear the unknown and things that seem impossible to do know a God that does things that are impossible. Have any mountains that are in the way? Have any rivers that are over flowing the banks you need to cross? Have any seas that need parted? I don’t know if I will ever need to walk on water, but I need Him to work out some impossibilities that I cannot do in my own strength or ability. Taking the first step in believing Him, and keeping my trust in the one who can make miracles happen is what God requires of me. With God, all things are possible.
