Our God is Awesome!

 Psalm 33:8,9
Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

Our God is an awesome God! A chorus we sang in our children’s VBS one summer. We only need to look at His creation and the handiwork of His hands and we stand in awe of His might power. God said, "Let there be light, and there was light.” Our God is an awesome God. Jesus, on the sea of Galilee, spoke the words, “Peace be still.” and the waves and winds obeyed Him. Our God is an awesome God! Jesus spoke the words again, “Raise up and walk.” and the lame were made whole. Our God is an awesome God! Jesus touched the eyes of the blind man, and his eyes were open. Our God is an awesome God! The Publican cried out, “Be merciful to me, a sinner.” and this man went home justified, and forgiven of his sins. Our God is an awesome God! Facing two men possessed with demons, He commanded the demons to go, and they fled into a herd of swines. Our God is an awesome God! Even as Jesus was hanging on the cross between two sinners, the thief cried out to be remembered in the next life. Jesus says, “Today, you shall be with me in paradise.” Our God is an awesome God! I stand in awe and praise Him today, because He is faithful, and His mercy endures forever. He is an awesome God! Sing with me, “Our God is an awesome God!”

Train Up A Child

 Prov 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

The internet is filled with information about raising children. I sometimes wonder how we managed without it. The goal of training a child is to teach them to always seek God’s righteousness and to follow the teachings of Jesus. A child who learns to trust in God and rely on God’s wisdom will never forget what is important in life. It is not necessarily the goal to train our children to be just like us or to even see everything the way we do. As Christian parents, we do our best to teach our children to live close to God and avoid the traps of Satan that will ensnare them into a life of sin. We set guidelines, rules of conduct and behavior, teaching them the commandments of God and to listen to the voice of God in prayer.  The fear of God is the beginning of knowledge. If our children follow the precepts and principles that are given to us in His word, we can be assure that they will find the way they should go. Their abilities and talents that God gave them can be used to glorify God

Follow The Lord

Deut. 13:4

You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him

This scripture is full of things to do: follow, fear, keep, listen, serve and cling to the Lord. Many follow the world and its progressive thinking, many fear the Covid virus and fear for their life. People will keep and commit to causes to save the earth, but neglect to keep God’s word to save their soul. Voices come from all directions, and many are led astray by people who give out a voice that appears to be good, but it leads to destruction. There are those serving the world and the pleasure of sin, and they cling to the sin that they love, and refuse to let go. Living for God is a full abandonment to be all that God wants us to be. It requires all of our energy and surrender to Him and His will. Serving God is not a “go to church once a week thing”. It is a day by day walk that requires us to live a life filled with the Holy Spirit. The commandment given in the OT is also given in the NT. Be filled with the Spirit, draw close to God, and walk in His word.

The Duty of Man

Ecc. 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again”. The mundane things of life. The endless daily routine of doing the same thing over and over again. Some would say. I live a boring life, I get up, take a shower, eat breakfast, go to work, eat lunch, come home, eat supper, and get ready for the next day” We repeat the same routine the next day until the weekend, then there are the many “things” that need to be done around the house. Yes, it does appear at times that this is the cycle of life. What does it mean to live? How do we fulfill life’s joy in the repetition of life? “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” In the midst of endless things to do, our focus in life is to fear God, and keep trusting Him that He does all things well.
