Think on His Word

 Psalm 1:2
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
The scripture in the days of King David consists of the Torah, the first 5 books of the Bible in the Old Testament. It is regarded as the Law of the Lord. The writing of Moses, the inscriptions of the Ten Commandment, the statues that God required from His people. It is also filled with God’s promises to His people. If they would keep His law, He would be with them and would not forsake them. The man, woman, or child that made the Law of the Lord the focus and centrality of their lives was blessed by God. “Blessed is the man...” The Psalmist writes that this person will be like a tree planted by water, his life will be fruitful and prosperous. We now have the whole counsel of God given to us by holy men of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. The message of full salvation, abounding love and grace. We delight in His word, we take the time not only to read His word, but apply the word to our hearts. Take time to think on the teachings of Jesus, muse yourself in His word, hide it in your heart to help you live right and godly in this present world.

Sweeter Than Honey

Psalm 19:10
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
His law, His statues, precepts, and commandments are not grievous, they refresh the soul, they are the source of what is right and good. His word brings joy to the heart and opens the eyes to truth and the way of righteousness. His word brings eternal life. Silver and gold, the riches of this world fade away in light of what is most important in life. We desire many things in this life, and God has provided us with such blessings, but our daily bread is the word of God. We seek first the things of God and all other desires in life will fall in place. Living in His word is more than reading a morning devotion, it is the source of our life that guides our every action and reaction. He is the living Word, and through Him we find our purpose in life. Jesus is more desirable than gold, finer than the things of this world, He grows sweeter every day, making life worth living.

Power of the Holy Spirit

 Roman 15:13
The God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Living the Christian life can only be done through the power of the Holy Spirit. In our humanity, we can set our will and determination to do right and live justly, but living with hope and being filled with peace during times of hardship, uncertainty, and tribulation is made possible only through the power of the Spirit. Calling upon His power is made accessible to us as we keep our relationship with Him open. We walk in His word, we talk daily with Him as we go about our daily routines. The power of the Holy Spirit is made available to believers to live victorious and overcome unrest and discouragement. Call upon the Holy Spirit. Let Him fill you with love, peace and joy.

His Word Dwells Within Us

 Col 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

To dwell is to live in. How does the word of Christ live in us? Reading His word and committing it to memory is one aspect of His word dwelling in us, “if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee”- Prov 2:1. It is good to know the word of Christ and know His teachings. But, His word living in us must be more than a mere intellectual knowledge of knowing his teaching, it is an abiding presence that lives in us from day to day. It is a fountain of life that springs from our heart. The word is living and working in our lives every day. It is not something we do on Sunday when we go to the house of worship. His word lives in our heart and is expressed in how we live. Through prayer, mediation, singing, and reading his Word, we learn to let the word of Christ abide in our hearts, to dwell in us richly.

Rejoice in His Word

Psalm 119:14, 15.16 “  I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Thy precepts and attend unto Thy ways. I will delight myself in Thy statutes; I will not forget Thy word.”

Sometimes reading and mediating on God’s Word is like a sword. It pierces the heart with convictions and reveals what lurks in the shadows when the light of His Word searches the soul. Rejoicing is not the first emotions that comes to my mind. His law, His commandments show us how sinful we are, and how bad we need a Savior. His Word does not leave us without hope. The testimony of the Lord is to show us that we don’t have to live in darkness and sin, that we can rejoice that He has provided a way to live and to live more abundantly. His Word becomes light that shine before us, leading us day by day to walk close to Him. We have a heart of gratitude, we give Him praise for giving us His Word that we can learn to walk in His precepts. His Word, that became flesh can now dwell in our hearts and fill us with joy beyond riches.

Hidden Treasures

Prov: 2:4,5 “if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hidden treasure, then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”-
Finding and experiencing the deeper things of God does not come by accident. Hidden treasures take time to find. Taking time to think on the word of God will help us better understand who God is and what He desires for our lives. Getting to know God better is done on purpose. Knowing God’s word needs to go deeper than reading for the sake of just memorizing words. The word of God needs to be applied to our heart. The application of living out His commandment is done by putting in to practice what He wants us to do. “Love thy neighbor, as thyself” are profound words given to us by Jesus, but what does it mean to love your neighbor, how do you go about showing love to your neighbor? “Lord, help me to take the time to seek God and ask Him to open His word to me, and help me to live it as I face my world today”.

Always to Pray

Luke 18:1,8 “And He spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint,... shall He find faith on the earth?
Praying is not a magical formula to get what we want. Yes, God desires to give us the desires of our heart, but prayer is more than just asking for things. Prayer is taking time to talk to God about life and getting to know Him better. We read God’s word and asked God to reveal His word to us. God speaks to us through our minds, conscience, and His word. He reveals to us what is right and good. Will God find such openness of heart when He returns? We must not quit talking to God, we must believe that He will take care of our needs and trust Him to keep us from falling.  There may be times like Job that we don’t feel that God is anywhere near, but we must not give up our faith in God. We may be going through some difficult times, but He is in control and has a purpose for everything He does. May He find me faithful, always praying and trusting Him.
