What is in Your Hand?

 Ex 4:2
And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

The things that seem to be of no significance are often the tools God uses to get His work done. What kind of “rod” do you hold in your hands can God use? God asked Moses to throw the rod down. Moses obeyed and Moses saw the power of God. This is not the last time God demonstrated His power through the rod that Moses held. Like Moses, we may feel inadequate for the work He calls us to do. We see so many others with innate talent that could do the job so much better. “Who Am I?” Moses is not the only one who has spoken those words. It has been said that God is not asking if you are able, but if you are available. He is asking us to give our best effort. “Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might;”- Ecc 9:10. Do our best, and let God do the rest. We may or probably not be the best qualified person to do what needs to be done, but God is calling us to fill in the gap, make up the hedge and take what is in our hand and use it to the glory of God. Jesus took ordinary men from ordinary occupations, and they did some very extraordinary things. He has put something in everybody's hand, it is time to throw down the rod, and see God at work.

Whatsoever You Do

1 Corinth 10:31
So then, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of [our great] God.
The day to day things of life matter to God. The everyday things we do have purpose. Eating, drinking, working, entertainment, conversation, the places we go and whatever we do is all done to the glory of God. Our purpose is to glorify God. That is the motivation to live a life of holiness and blameless before God. The influences of the world outside of Bible principles press all around us to cause us to make choices that can deviate us from our purpose. Paul tells us to “Abstain from every form of evil [withdraw and keep away from it]”.  We are to be the light of Christ to the world, and guard against doing anything that will cause one to live outside the light of Christ or forsake the way.

Praises of Men

Matt 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

We all like to be recognized for a job well done. Appreciated by others when we go out of our way to perform a good deed. But Jesus says to take inventory of your motives. Are your works of kindness done for the purpose so that other will give you praise and applaud your virtues? Some extol their generosity and speak freely of the gifts they bestow to the church, or all the work they do for the church. All is good and God is pleased when we give and work to keep the church doors open, but we are to do so because it is in our heart to work for His kingdom. Let us guard our words and thought and heart against bringing praises to ourselves, and do all things for His praise and glory.

God Working in Us

Hebrew 13:21  Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
God is able to work through anyone, even without their cooperation. But, to those that open up their heart and are filled with the Holy Spirit, God is able to do mighty things. When we surrender our life to God, He begins to do a work that is impossible for man to do. No amount of schooling or book reading can equip a person to love unconditionally. His love working in us does not always follow reason or logic. It will look beyond the surface and sees what is possible with the help of God. Start your day asking God to work in your life to make a difference, to show others the goodness of God. The works of the devil are destructive and self serving, God desires to work in us that which is pleasing. A work that will bring glory to the Father.

God Has Called Us

Ephesians 4:1 “I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”

Everyone has a calling, everyone has a job to do. God has given us each talents or desires to be something for God. Jesus admonition us to occupy till He returns, keep busy working for the Kingdom. Go forth into the world and live the life that God has called us to. We all are called to live for God and to let our light shine in a world that is darken with sin. We are not called to live as the world, but to live in this world the life of holiness. (1 thess 4:7) The job we have or the work we do may take on various facets. Some are called to minister the Word and some are called to serve the needs of people, others are called to build shelter, or educate the masses. There are many vocations that God may call us to, and He wants us to fulfill our calling to the glory of God. Do them as unto the Lord, and not unto man. What ever God has put into your hand, do it with all your might. (Ecc. 9:10). Let us live worthy of the work that God has called us to do.
